I took the broken girl that you made, the one you filled with self-hate and abandonment issues and chiseled her into a warrior.
Battle scars litter her body, medication slithering through her veins to counter the chemical imbalance you caused, her mind racing over all the things she needs to get done.
Sitting on her bed with her legs folded, cartoons on the tv that she’s seen more times than there are stars in the sky, computer in front of her.
She racks her brain trying to put words to paper.
The only thing that comes to mind is her daughter’s beautiful blue eyes staring at her. Those eyes that ooze wonder and trust.
The mother bear in her chest wakes, a deep growl from within. “Mine,” the mother bear says. “That’s my baby”
She closes her eyes and approaches the mama bear within her. Bows her head in respect. She then feels coarse fur tickle her face as the mother bear presses her forehead against hers. Understanding passes through the touch, “that’s our baby, mama bear, that’s our baby.”
She hears a faint whisper, “mama?”
She rises to the surface, brushing the mother bear’s snout as she slips back to reality.
There’s that small voice again, “mama?”
She opens her eyes and see’s a pair of eyes identical to her own.
“I got present uh you!! Close your eyes, hold out hand!” she does as she’s told, and a half-eaten cookie is placed in her hand.
A small smile creeps across her lips, “Thank you bubbalou!” she says as she takes a bite.
Mother bear growls in her chest, “that’s my baby.”
With a small smile across her lips, and mama bear growling in her chest, she thinks to herself “over my dead body will you ever feel my pain.”
Mother bear lays back down, curled around her cub. With a lick across the cub’s face, she settles in for the night.
“Never feel my pain” echoes in the cavern with mother bear. The lullaby of those simple words allows Mother bear to drift off.
You will never feel my pain.
Bubbalou sits in her lap and asks for the same cartoon she’s watched so many times before. With a kiss to the side of her face, she turns on the movie she can quote.
“As you wish…”
